Roots 'N Blues: The Retrospective, 1925 - 1950

…und wieder einmal eine hervorragende Kompilation für alle, die sich für die Entwicklung und Geschichte der amerikanischen Musik brennend interessieren, versammelt aus den Schatzkammern von SONY/COLUMBIA...

ROOTS heißt es hier zunächst einmal, und das bedeutet, Abstriche an Aufnahme- und Klangqualität.
Denn es startet im Jahre 1925, und die Roots der amerikanischen Musik sind vielfältig, Musik im Ausfluß des Einflusses europäischer Einwanderer, Musik der farbigen Sklaven, hier ist es bunt versammelt, und so finden wir frühe Country-Stücke neben frühen Bluesnummern, Folk, Cajun, Jug Band Music, Gospel und christlichen Liedern der weißen Bevölkerung.

So stehen neben einem Reverend(J.M.Gates), der christliches verbreitet(Death’s black train is coming) neben solchen, die das Gegenteil verkörpern, nämlich des Teufel’s Musik(Hard rocks in my bed mit Bumble Bee Slim) und skurril anmutendes wie Adolf Hofner and his San Antonians neben bekannten Musikern wie Mississippi John Hurt oder einigen von denen man vielleicht schon gehört, aber noch nichts gehört hat, wie z.B. einen der PINK FLOYD-Namensgeber, Pink Anderson.

New York, Atlanta, Georgia, Los Angeles, Chicago,Texas, da wurde überwiegend aufgenommen.

Ein wirklich herrlicher bunter Querschnitt, der uns zeigt, wie vielfältig die Quellen dessen sind, was die spätere populäre Musik einmal beinhalten sollte.
Schwerpunkt liegt hier nicht auf den bekannten Interpreten, sondern Vielfalt ist hier das erklärte Ziel der Kompilisten gewesen. Und das hat man hervorragend gelöst!
Klar, daß hier das informative Booklet inklusive ist, mit vielen Fotos und Hintergrundinformationen.
